According to the Clarivate, This year’s data summarizes Web of Science citations from 2021, including 35,000 publications (journals, books, and conference proceedings), 2.7 million citable items, and 145 million cited references indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection.

    • the number of times articles published in the journal during each of the most recent 10 years were cited by individual-specific journals during the year (the twenty journals with the greatest number of citations are given)
    • and several measures derived from these data for a given journal: its impact factor, immediacy index, etc.

How the Journal Impact Factor is calculated?

As we know that the Journal Citation Report (JCR) contains the citations to the journals for particular years.

The Journal Impact Factor is defined as citations to the journal in the JCR year to items published in the previous two years, divided by the total number of scholarly items, also known as citable items, (these comprise articles and reviews) published in the journal in the previous two years.

Latest Update from the Clarivate

On 28th June, Clarivate released the 2022 update to its annual Journal Citation Reports.

1) This year The Lancet‘s Journal Impact Factor™ (JIF) of 202.731 has moved it to the first position in the general & internal medicine category, overtaking the New England Journal of Medicine.

2) Seven journals had JIFs of more than 100 for the first time, all of which published high quantities of COVID-19-related research. These are the 

  1. Journal of the American Medical Association,
  2. The Lancet,
  3. Lancet Respiratory Medicine,
  4. Nature Reviews Drug Discovery,
  5. Nature Reviews Immunology,
  6. Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology 
  7. New England Journal of Medicine.

3) The Journal Citation Report contains more than 21,000 journals, from 254 research categories and 114 countries. This includes: 12,800 science journals, 6,600 social science journals, and 3,000 arts and humanities journals
